This is Why You Doubt so Much

The mind is the seat of our imagination — it is where we exercise our will. It determines the magnitude and direction of our life.

Moses sent 12 spies to Canaan, to evaluate the land God had given to them and bring word back to him.

The spies got to Canaan. They saw milk, honey and fruits in abundance. But then, they also saw giants, walls, and fortified cities. After 40 days of their assignment, they got back to Moses and told him what they had seen and then went further to give a gazillion reasons they should not attempt to claim the land God had promised them.

But Joshua and Caleb saw something different, thus they told a different story, “Only do not rebel against the LORD, nor fear the people of the land, for they are our bread; their protection has departed from them, and the LORD is with us. Do not fear them."

While Joshua and Caleb imagined Canaan as bread for them, the other 10 spies saw themselves as nothing but grasshoppers. They had forgotten the red sea, the plagues in Egypt. They had forgotten God.

We know how the story ended— only Joshua and Caleb made it to the promise land while the other spies perished.

Like the 12 spies, we may encounter roadblocks, setbacks as we journey through life. More often than not, many believers evaluate circumstances without the consideration of God. We exalt the circumstance above the power of God inside of us, we forget God. And for this reason we get defeated.

The greatest battle for believers, is the battle of believing God’s promises over the devil’s lies. This is what spiritual warfare is all about.

The devil cannot possess nor oppress you —Christ Jesus has defeated him. But he can ensure you do not believe the promises of God’s word. He makes you doubt God’s word by throwing thoughts that are against the word of God into your mind. The mind is the battlefield, the negative thoughts are the devil’s weapons.

For instance, you are meditating on, “He himself took our infirmities and bore our sickness.” The devil may come and say, “Dude, you have to calm down, have you forgotten, this particular condition runs in your family? Your father, grandfather and aunt had it.”

“But I belong to the family of Christ now, His blood courses through my veins.”
“So was Nick. You know how it ended, don’t you?”

The devil is a master deceiver, he has been here since eons. He wins the battle of the mind, by getting you doubt God’s word. Because he knows this: “But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord.” (James 1vs6&7)

A believer must get to a point of unbendable persuasion in God’s words, otherwise nothing will really happen. And like the 10 spies, we will move from not even seeing ourselves as humans but as something as mundane as a grasshopper.”

God is merciful, he didn’t leave helpless in our war against the devil. Matter of fact, he provided for us, the most potent strategy to defeat the devil.

This bible passage is the strategy to defeat the devil. If he whispers to you that you will die in debt, cast it down. He tells you, you will amount to nothing, cast it down. He tells you, you will never be in good health, cast it down.

Cast it all down with the sword of the spirit which is the word of God and gather every though to the obedience of Christ.

Jesus is our perfect example. Jesus had fasted for 40 days and 40 nights, he was hungry. The devil came and said, “ If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”

And Jesus answered, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God’”

The devil attempted three times, And Jesus kept saying, “It is written.” Jesus used the word, the devil fled. Like Jesus, we can resist the devil with the word, and he will flee.

What challenge are you going through and it seems as though God is far? The tunnel may seem unending, and even darker by each passing second. But having tasted the power of the divine life and see how the devil can be defeated, I have never been more confident of the potency of God’s word than now.

You too can cause the devil to flee like a headless chicken.
