Jesus as the Standard

10th OCTOBER, 2021

Has life tossed you to and fro for long, and all you seek is an open arm of comfort, a place of solace and a final destination of rest? Well, let us ponder on this: what do you term as comfort or rest? Is your mind engrossed in the dictionary definition of rest, or the Jesus kind- being able to sleep amidst the scary nights of fearful hearts and surging storms?

Jairus said, master, my daughter is sick and is dying, and Jesus resurrected her (Mark 5:21–43). Master, ‘I can not see,’ He healed him (Mark 8:22–26). Jesus, ‘we are hungry,’ He fed them (Matthew 14:13–21). Teacher, ‘we are all going to die,’ He calmed the storm.

John the Baptist declared Him the son of God, yet they crucified Him. He who knew no sin, they charged Him guilty (Mark 4:35–41). Yet as sinful as we are, none has ever received such hatred as Jesus did from men, but for the joy that was set before Him, He endured the cross, despising the shame and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God (Hebrews 12:2).

Our standard of faithfulness should be Christ. The Bible entreats us to be not conformed to the standards of this world. As a representative of the Kingdom, following God’s precepts, you would be taunted and persecuted. However, knowing that our standard is but one — our Lord and Savior Jesus, be transformed by the renewal of your mind (Romans 12:2).

Beloved, when life’s challenges come, consider carefully how Jesus faced such intense opposition. Pledge allegiance today and be faithful to the vision of God by making Jesus your standard. If your flesh is your excuse, remember John 1:14, that the Word (Christ) became flesh, and lived among us; and we [actually] saw His glory, glory as belongs to the [One and] only begotten Son of the Father, [the Son who is truly unique, the only One of His kind, who is] full of grace and truth (absolutely free of deception) yet, He endured it all.
