Nobody can deny that Elon Musk is one of the most influential people of our time. You might be a strong admirer or detractor but still might use one of his inventions like the Tesla car, or PayPal.

From his early years living in South Africa, he proved that when he wants something, he’ll find a way to do it. Either by changing our paying habits, the cars we drive, our internet connection, or by sending astronauts to the International Space Station.

He has succeeded in almost every type of business, even when his detractors tried to derail his dreams, but he went against the odds to make them come true.

Here are 10 times Elon Musk has proven his detractors wrong

In 1995 Musk thought everyone should be able to look for the closest pizza restaurant and how to get there. He conceived the idea of computer software that provided such a service.

After investors turned him down, he bought a disk with a business directory and convinced NavTech, to let him use their electronic mapping software for free.

He founded Global Link Information Network, offering an internet mix of the Yellow Pages with maps.

Years later, against the odds, the business prospered, and in 1996, it became Zip2. Three years later, Compaq Computers bought it for $300 million, and Musk received $22 million for his shares, making him a millionaire at 28.

Before Zip2.com, Musk worked in the Bank of Nova Scotia as an intern in 1990 and wrote a multi-billion bond idea, but the bank’s CEO rejected the idea.
