The Haiku is the Writer Stretching

I have no idea if the poems are any good. Sometimes I’ve posted them to social media and followers have offered some ideas for rewrites. That’s been uniquely interesting. Some poetry I’ve also posted…

Changing of The Guard

We Say Goodbye To The NBA Finals Run Of LeBron and Steph

A change is gonna come! Just like the civil rights-themed song from legend Sam Cooke, the NBA is undergoing a change that we have not seen in a long time. This change is one that even LeBron James or Stephen Curry cannot stop. It has been over a decade since the NBA Finals were played without Lebron or Steph. Will this be a new trend or is it simply a blip on the radar? I believe we are witnessing a changing of the guard in the NBA and this year will represent things to come.

The Los Angeles Lakers were knocked out of the playoffs this year in the 1st round at the hands of the up-and-coming Phoenix Suns. The injuries that plagued the Lakers all season long, showed up at the wrong time. LeBron was able to play through his nagging injuries but the groin injury was too much for Anthony Davis. Make no mistake about it, the Phoenix Suns are here to stay for the long term. Led by the ageless wonder Chris Paul, this team has everything it needs to sustain this type of success for years to come.

Devin Booker, despite playing like a 10-year veteran, is only 24 years old. The play of Deandre Ayton was one of the bigger surprises of the first round. He averaged about 16ppg and 10 rebounds against the defending champion Los Angeles Lakers and after two games against Denver, he seems more than ready to take on this year’s MVP in Nikola Jokic.

Speaking of the Nuggets! They seem to be playing with house money this year with starting point guard Jamal Murray injured for the rest of the season. Jokic, as mentioned earlier has won the league MVP, and his play so far in the playoffs has been elevated to an even higher level.

With Murray’s injury, Denver needed a #2 option and Michael Porter Jr. has stepped into that role with ease. The 3rd year player from Missouri has been deadly from 3-point range, increased his usage, and has been able to keep the team afloat when Jokic is off the court. When Jamal Murray comes back healthy, the Nuggets might be the team to beat in the Western Conference for the next several years.

Luka Doncic played out of his mind this year in a first-round series loss to the Clippers. Despite…
